Dr. N.L. Buck grave JL

Dr. Nathan Lobdell ("N.L.") Buck (January 16, 1831 – May 24, 1885) was an Oakland medical doctor who specialized in "female diseases." He was shot and killed by Henry F. Prindle, an angry husband who said Dr. Buck had taken improper liberties with his wife while she was under his professional care.

The first trial was highly publicized, but after weeks of testimony and several days of deliberation, it ended in a hung jury, 9 to 3. 1 In the second trial several months later, Prindle was found not guilty of Dr. Buck's murder. 2

Buck and his wife Elmira Buck (September 19, 1836 – December 13, 1884) are buried in Mountain View Cemetery, plot 13.
