Biography


Born in Emburheim, Germany, Heinrich (Henry) left Germany in 1853. Henry arrived in Bennington, NY with the sister of his late wife and his daughter Catherine. He would later marry his sister in law Elsie Oldswager and her parents would soon join them. Henry would have 15 children with Elsie, Jacob being the first in 1854 and Fred being the last in 1874.

Henry purchased 105 acres of farm land in Bennington, NY, but would expand to over 300 acres. A large home was built on the property in 1872, later and barn and wagon shop. The barn was used into the 1950's until it burned. The house still stand at 1105 Sierk Road, the road named after the family. 

Henry shipped milk to Buffalo by horse and later operated a Grist Mill commonly known as Sierk Station and later he would operate a feed store in Attica.

Henry died and is buried in Attica, NY.
