The Pioneer Day Parade is an annual tradition held in downtown Chico. Springtime parades with different names have been held over the years since 1917, and the Pioneer Day Parade in its current form and with its current name has occurred since 2003. The name of the Parade was chosen by Chicoans, and is a reminder of the older tradition of Pioneer Days that was once held in Chico until the 1980s.
The parade has traditionally been held the first Saturday in May, and this is still the case. Floats are driven through the streets of downtown, and various groups march in the parade. It is a family-friendly event, and most locals will remember attending the parades over the decades in one of its many incarnations ("Pioneer Days," "Rancho Chico Days," "Celebration of People Parade," etc).
