Location and History:

Dana Point is a beautiful city located in the heart of Orange County. This town received its name after Richard Henry Dana Jr and is approximately 6.5 miles in total across the coast of California. Dana Point was originally known as a funky beach town, however it is now known for being one of the most prestigious cities in Southern California. Dana point is now home to the replica model of the Pilgrim, at the Ocean Institute, where local elementary schools take field trips to. The Dana Point Harbor is where the Pilgrim is docked specifically and is also a big attraction and hangout spot for both locals as well as tourists. In honor of remembering Richard Henry Dana Jr, a statue of him has been placed at Strands Beach in Dana Point.

Dana Point Harbor:

The Dana Point Harbor is home to roughly 2500 boats and yachts, along with 50 restaurants and shops. These restaurants consist of both classy and causal dining options. A crowd favorite seems to be Harpoon Henrys and is said to be some of the best sea food in Dana Point. Directly across from Harpoon Henrys is a more causal, amazing mexican restaurant called El Torito. Coffee Importers is also located in the harbor and is home to the best bagel in all of Orange County, the "Dana Bagel". You can board the Catalina Express from the Dana Point Harbor which will take you to the City of Avalon on Catalina Island.

Doheny State Beach:

Doheny State beach is another big landmark in Dana Point. In 1929, the owner of this land, Ned Doheny and his friend, Hugh Plunkett were murdered. As a memorial in honor of Ned, his family decided to donate this land to the state of California, which is now known as Doheny state beach. This beach is a huge attraction for families to come and have bonfires. It is also a big surf spot as the waves are very kid friendly. Doheny campgrounds are commonly used as well for family camping trips.

Places to go:

Located in the heart of Dana Point on Pacific Coast Highway is where you will find all the popular bars. One of the most commonly known is Hennessey's Tavern. Just last year in October of 2015, Charlie Sheen was escorted out of Hennessey's Tavern for slapping a woman's cellphone out of her hand. It is not uncommon to see celebrities roaming the streets of Dana Point, hopping from bar to bar. Located on the corner of PCH and golden lantern we have another bar, Still Water. This bar is known for its regular local visitors. Next we have Turks which is located across the street from the Dana Point Harbor. Due to its location, Turks is more common for younger people, typically ages 21-27.
