Allan Bakke brought a successful lawsuit against the Regents of the University of California in the late 1970s over the "special admissions" program at the UC Davis School of Medicine. The eventual 5-4 Supreme Court decision in Bakke's favor is considered a landmark case in the area of affirmative action. Bakke entered the UC Davis School of Medicine in 1978.
