A major fire broke out in the city of Davis at about 11 AM on the morning of November 13, 1916. The fire started out, through mechanisms still unknown, in a pool hall in the area now known as Old North Davis. The damage the fire was estimated at $75,000 - $100,000 ($1.4 million to $1.9 million in 2007 dollars). This event was a major catalyst for the efforts to incorporate the City of Davis in order to provide services like a Fire Department.
