Skunks are omnivorous mammals that are most active during twilight periods of the day. They are the leading vector of the rabies virus in California. When rabid, they are more likely to be active during broad daylight.
There are two skunk species found in Yolo County: the striped skunk and the Western spotted skunk. Both are native, and both are found in all parts of Yolo County, including in Davis.
