Trisha "Trish" Yasay, a third year in the plant sciences, was hit and killed by a garbage truck that was owned and operated by UC Davis Fleet Services. The driver was UC Davis employee Francisco Gonzalez. The collision occurred at the intersection of Hutchinson Drive and Dairy Road at 8:00 am on May 25, 2022, a clear day. Yasay was 19 years old at the time of her death. Yasay's death left a hole in the community. Her bike was turned into a memorial where she was killed.
On July 18, 2022, Yasay's parents filed a lawsuit against the Regents of the University of California and Francisco Gonzalez.
