2008-01-31 13:53:31   So are you named after Dagon or Dagon (short story)? That's pretty cool if you are. —NickSchmalenberger

2008-02-01 09:37:23   My full name is Dagon Hurricane Casey Jones, I was named after Dagon the god of the Philistines. Dagon was a god of fish and grain, he appeared as a half fish half man (much like a mermaid). My parents were older hippies and my mom thought a fish god was appropriate because my zodiac sign is pisces. My middle name Casey, is from my father's nickname "Casey Jones" and Hurricane was chosen by my dad because it sounded cool (I think, he wont give me a straight answer). Many people recognize Dagon from the H.P. Lovecraft short story and the Cthulhu mythos. I think Lovecraft chose to write about Dagon because he was a long forgotten god once worshiped by cultures considered evil by early christians. —DagonJones

I recently found this: town of Dagon it is kind of interesting

2008-02-01 13:29:11   When I was in dental school at UCSF, there was a graffiti tagger who was using my name (probably still is). I would see my name all over San Francisco. —DagonJones

2008-02-01 18:27:33   You have a very cool name. Rock on! Thanks for the little blurb about how you were named. Very interesting. My parents got a little creative with me too, but in my case I was fortunate because they hid it in the middle and chose a nice two syllable anglo-saxon first name. My middle name is just funky and uncool. —CurlyGirl26

2008-04-24 15:28:18   That dental questions page is a very cool idea! —WilliamLewis

2008-04-25 16:01:59   Again, thanks for the input about dental implants. Thanks to you I have decided to go ahead and get an implant, I'm sure Dr. Shirazi can still do it for me (he said the space I have there should suffice). I think a dental implant would be a better use of my money because it is more durable. And thanks for the band recommendation, I will pass it on. We actually saw Front 242 in Germany last year because they played at the Gothik Treffen festival. And yes, Babyland is way cool (I saw them in SF some years ago). I'm not too familiar with Ministry. —CalamityJanie

2008-04-27 10:39:45   hay, thanks for adding some info to dental fraud!

Are you enjoying your tenure as a Davisite? —StevenDaubert

Oh snap you kiteboard as well! <3

2008-04-28 08:09:19   I use the kites mostly on the buggy. The landboards I find a little scary, besides you can go way faster in a buggy :) —DagonJones

2008-05-28 08:47:04   Lamar mentioned your conundrum to me the other day. (He also said he was going to write a positive review of your work for the wiki). I guess we do have a few similarities. Since we're moderately doppelgangers, lets hope that no one busts my teeth on the street because you busted theirs in the office, or likewise, no one smashes your face in reaction to my political race. Of course, this is one of the friendliest towns in America so I doubt it would happen, but you never know.... —RobRoy

2008-06-23 10:45:46   Re: Jason and I being the same person: It was an April Fool's Day prank that gets referenced now and then as a bit of tongue in cheek humor. We are, in fact, distinct individuals. We were both early wiki editors and we both follow the list of changes, so you can find cooperative and overlapping edits throughout the wiki. That and the fact that we both had beards (I still have mine, I know Jason shaved his off for awhile) and that Jason doesn't have a clear photo on his entry (although you can find photos of him elsewhere on the wiki) made us able to pull off the April Fool's Day joke. —Evan 'JabberWokky' Edwards

2008-11-10 12:00:53   I'm going to make you a wiki badge award for your dentistry questions page, it's turning into an awesome resource! —StevenDaubert

2008-11-10 12:05:02   Dagon, ever hear of people sanding teeth after chipping them to have them match up more or less... Two people I know have apparently done this.. I warned them that if they had sanded enough they would get towards nerves and have potentially life long sensitivity (but I was just humming a few bars and faking it) —StevenDaubert

2008-11-18 12:49:29   A wiki award is something (an image of an award_ added on a users page in honor of edits, or page counts, or in joke cases reverts! I think that what you are doing here is a wonderful resource that can be tapped! I have 2 friends who have actually sanded teeth down, I told them they were jokes. Another friend of mine is actually considering doing that right now, he chipped either # 1 / 2 and is cutting his tongue to ribbons... Thankfully he actually has ychip, so he is waiting for mobile dentists on Wed... —StevenDaubert

2008-11-19 22:06:17   yeah they come to the ychip locations on a certain date I think, the rotate ychip spots.. I will find more info! —StevenDaubert

2008-11-25 11:08:41   yeah they have a mobile dentist unit that mabs around yolo county, hitting different towns on different days. My buddy got his sharp tooth point slightly filled down so he isn't constantly shredding his tongue. Now he just has to get it filled =D —StevenDaubert

2010-02-05 13:57:16   I remember the 80s yogurt craze (I didn't want to put this on the yogurt page; people might think I'm old). My mom would drive us around SoCal looking for sugar-free or fat-free, which weren't common at first. —NoelBruening

2010-02-05 16:09:16   I love Davis Creamery, too. Glad to see that even dentists indulge once in awhile. :) —CovertProfessor

2010-02-05 16:34:07   I promise! :-) —CovertProfessor

2010-02-06 13:01:16   I mapped the town of Dagon to this entry (see the "Map" icon now at the top of the page?). Feel free to remove it; I just thought it would be an amusing option for you. —JabberWokky

2010-02-09 14:53:33   Have you heard of the "cavity fighting" lollipop? link. —EdWins

2010-02-09 20:15:21   Yup, Xylitol. I considered joining Dr. Shi's lab for my grad studies. His company partnered with "Dr Johns Herbal Candies" and have the pop out in orange flavor commercially for a while. While I was in his academic lab, we taste tested a bunch of new flavors for the pops. They were great, but eating 10 xylitol sweetened pops in one sitting wasn't the best idea if you know what I mean. We all felt a bit...off. My new dentist in LA uses these lollipops, I was just curious if you had ever heard of them since you seem pretty connected and plugged in :) —EdWins

2010-02-09 21:29:38   Yep, the same Han. —hankim

2010-02-12 09:28:19   Wow... an entire town is homeless! Someone needs to link them (you?) to Loaves & Fishes. —TomGarberson

2010-02-12 09:52:41   I've been a big fan of Monty Python and Gilliam for quite a long time (although I haven't seen The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus yet), and I've had a copy of Jabberwocky as long as it's been out on VHS (and now a copy on DVD). Although to be fair, I'll point out that my nickname is spelled ever so slightly different than the name of the creature in the poem for obscure reasons (JabberWokky versus Jabberwocky). Still, I have quite a bit of Jabberwocky related items that have been given to me over the years, from pop up books to holographic stickers. Quite awhile ago, I also got Fozzie T. Bear items for really obscure connections and in-jokes to the nickname. One of Fozzie's catchphrases was "Wakka Wakka Wakka", and the most common real world name I'm called — at least among close friends and theater folk — is simply "Wokky". —JabberWokky

2010-02-12 14:15:55   Wow, I didn't know that Tom Waits was in it. I didn't even realize that he was acting until I sat up during Mystery Men and made people pause the movie so I could look at the back of the DVD box to confirm it was him. Tom Waits' discography (along with some other artists and bands like Nick Cave, Mark Knopfler or Jethro Tull) is always close at hand on my computer or music player. —JabberWokky

2010-02-13 14:07:47   I don't see whats so private about it, they don't loose anything by having people know they did the work. It's almost like free publicity, and it's a nice local link to a game that isn't —StevenDaubert

2010-02-16 00:44:40   oh, I was unaware that you were the source ¬_¬ Almost reminds me of the superior farm guys not wanting a wiki page even though googling that brings up a effing map to the location —StevenDaubert

2010-02-16 23:23:14   discretion is the better part of valor —StevenDaubert

2010-02-17 08:48:19   Thanks for making sure the the info on Avant Page was accurate and kosher to share. It's an interesting tidbit that the wiki is better off having than not. —WilliamLewis

2010-02-19 17:24:12   Well the unguessed photo was pretty small... You look at the guesses page and see if the person who posted the photo has declared a winner. —JasonAller

2010-02-19 19:27:55   There is still an active mystery picture, which has only been up for a few days. You should remove yours until the current one is solved. —IDoNotExist

2010-02-22 11:15:32   Neat observation! —JabberWokky

2010-02-22 12:41:33   That disclaimer made me happy! —TomGarberson

2010-02-23 19:07:24   Yeah, I think you're right. I have the feeling that his mother would find it funny, though! Maybe they disagreed about the name of the company, and he lost. :-) —CovertProfessor

2010-02-23 22:09:30   I'd be curious to know how many wiki referrals there have been. And, by the way, I'm not at all surprised that there've been a lot. You're active and incredibly helpful on here, both in answering dental questions and elsewhere. —TomGarberson

2010-02-24 19:26:57   Steve is a great guy, but the parenthetical addition after his name doesn't really fit with the rest of the page naming conventions used here. I forget if he does business under his name or a business name, have you dealt with him recently? —JasonAller

2010-02-24 19:50:58   His business is called "steve stombler landscape" per his LinkedIn page. I don't know if the lower case is important to him or not. —JasonAller

2010-02-25 18:46:11   Not all opposition to Water Fluoridation is based out of fear and ignorance. —JasonAller

2010-02-26 10:47:04   IMO your addition to the fluoride page is sufficiently factual that it doesn't need to be italicized or signed; it can just be part of the text. Nice job, by the way. —DonShor

2010-03-03 09:49:27   It works from the Front Page, if I recall correctly. I did the same thing, by the way. I moved your comment to the Guesses entry... the first one with the amusing comment. If you wanted the second, more terse comment, go ahead and edit (which feels silly to tell you, as I think you've figured out the wiki by now!) —JabberWokky

2010-03-04 14:17:20   Set up the donation fund for the R.D.S.D at Drom's. Thanks for the info Dagon. —WesOne

2010-03-11 12:45:24   The dentist wasn't able to get back in town due to some nasty weather (all the local airports shutdown) and I was scheduled for that Monday. I'm rescheduled for the 18th of this month. Thanks for asking though... I'm looking forward to it. I didn't go without all this time because of any sort of fear, simply lack of insurance and not realizing how long it had been, or else I would have paid out of pocket at least a couple times during that period. Life kind of screams by for some things, and I never had any dental issues that made me realize just how many years it had been. At least I remember to change the oil in the car. —JabberWokky

2010-03-14 02:52:28   Yeah I need to whip something like that up!

Keep reminding me —StevenDaubert

2010-03-17 16:23:44   Sudwerk's chowder — New England or Manhattan? —JabberWokky

2010-03-18 06:36:30   Just because you asked, and I'm curious as to your take: Okay, now, an hour before I leave for the dentist here, I'm concerned. I Googled the address to be sure I was going to the right location, and found the Google reviews. Wow. Seems quite a few people complain about unnecessary treatments and poor work. "Okay, okay", I think to myself, "I'd imagine that reviews are usually pretty nasty to most dentists; just like car mechanics, they give bad news and often have to charge quite a bit for unpleasant acts." So I looked your reviews up, and you've not nothing but praise. Well... okay... maybe I should be worried about this dental visit. Or at least I am going to seriously consider a second opinion before agreeing to treatment considering I have zero issues that I am aware of (other than a likely horrible buildup of calculus, since it has been so long since I had a cleaning). No pain, no bleeding, my teeth are straight and solid... I certainly know there could be issues that need to be addressed, but I'm somewhat concerned about the possibility of unneeded treatment. —JabberWokky

2010-03-18 14:04:09   As it turns out, my last minute worries were completely unfounded. You'd think I would know better than to trust online reviews, especially ones where you can't see who they really came from! I wound up with "excellent" and "very good" down the line for his report, with a "poor" for dental hygiene, which he made clear was only because I hadn't had my teeth professionally cleaned in so long. We had a talk about genetics and how somebody else, even with my twice a day brushing and mouthwash and once a day flossing would not have fared as well as I. He said to thank my parents. No caries, either by x-ray or clinical inspection, but enough calculus that I need two more visits (a scaling and a cleaning to polish). My gums are in good condition, and while there's one spot on my lower right that might need some sub-gum cleaning (I forget what it was called), he said it was uncertain that would be needed and that they'd do the full cleaning first and see how it stood. He is the third dentist I've ever seen, and the third dentist who said I have some of the straightest teeth they've ever seen. I'm starting to think that's a polite way to say that I have a big mouth. ;) The only procedure he offered that was questionable he made very clear wasn't a required thing, which was a basal cell inspection for mouth cancer (he mentioned "white light" or something). He said he'd strongly recommend it if I had used tobacco or been more than a social drinker. I don't fall into either category, but at only $25, I'm thinking about getting it just for the long shot huge benefit versus such a low cost. I have two questions I'm posting at Dental Questions that I'm curious about and I think are good questions for the general public. I know I never thought about either before, and they only really occurred to me after I left. —JabberWokky

2010-03-18 16:02:55   Will be unable to this Saturday as I have an employment obligation elsewhere. —WesOne

2010-03-19 10:11:33   Just so you know, it seems that curly quotes don't work for links and the like. I'm guessing you probably wrote your comment in Word or some other "rich text" word processor? If you copy/paste text over from a word processor where the quotes are curved, they'll stay curved and links won't work. It's kinda silly, but... yeah. If you use Notepad, you'll avoid that problem, since it isn't rich text. And you can make it look halfway decent using Format > Word Wrap. —TomGarberson

2010-03-19 10:35:33   For a redirect, you just replace the page's text with #redirect <Page Name>. So to make a page redirect to Chicken Wings, you'd just make replace the page text with #redirect Chicken Wings —TomGarberson

2010-03-25 03:58:38   Last line. To answer your question, there is no easy way to group photo requests on a map or by location. —JabberWokky

2010-03-28 00:09:23   Since he no longer works in any related business (to our knowledge), I see no reason to leave any reference to Wes on the Bizarro World page. I appreciate your effort at retaining the history, but at this point I believe the only remaining history is the controversy. Since the owner of Bizarro World will probably not be allowed to remove any reference to Wes without igniting a huge controversy, I'd respectfully urge that one of us remove the reference. —DonShor

2010-03-28 09:16:04   I don't mind removing the reference to Wes from the Bizarro World page, or at least the reference to Wes working at Drom's. There is still some sort of relationship between Bizarro World, and Wes as a person/wiki user so that link could remain. But I don't mind removing it either, because of all the badness. —NickSchmalenberger

2010-03-29 17:30:45   Seriously, dude, I think you have the coolest name I've ever heard. —ScottMeehleib

2010-04-15 19:01:46   Hi, Dagon. I was thinking of posting a picture as a mistery picture, but you are so fast! One of the reasons I could not acieve the posting was that I was unsure what´s the proper time to do this. I mean, you have just posted the windy scene and I was about commiting the changes I was "inflicting" to the page. If I hadn't double checked the original page for if someone had put a new image, I'd wiped yours away by accident (I promise). So, I would like to post some images I have of Davis, but would like to do without ruinning others work. Any suggestio/directions/advise?

BTW, in Spain, where I am from, there was a pop group called Dagon Dagon. Now I guess that they choose this name after that god ou mentioned. —JASH

2010-04-21 13:48:38   OK, a follow-up on the Sideways Owl thing. I worked for what was then called Z-World. They owned the empty lot, and had plans to eventually build a second facility on the land. The only fear was that there was a nearby nest of Burrow Owls, and that they might spread into the undeveloped lot, causing environmental complications. So in about 2001 or so, as an attempt to keep them Burrow Owls away they mounted 2 plastic Great Horned Owls on posts. The owls orginally had reflective streamers attached to them, and they were on motorized bases that would cause them to randomly move atop the pole as the owls were intentionally mounted off-center to mave the movement more apparent. The building expansion never occurred, and Z-World was bought by another company (Several years after I left) and was renamed Rabbit, so I guess they just stayed as there was no reason/inclination to take them down. Although they must have done a good job since I haven't seen any Burrow Owls there. I wasn't exactly sure where to post the info, but since you asked. —RogerClark

2010-05-12 15:00:45   You think I'm the unabomber??? Is that supposed to be funny? —CovertProfessor

2010-05-12 15:10:25   I agree that the sketch is ridiculous, but the unabomber himself is no joke. I don't mind a joke or two at my expense as long as it doesn't involve comparing me to mass murderers. :-) —CovertProfessor

2010-05-12 15:14:04   Mr. Dobbs is better. :-) —CovertProfessor

2010-05-12 15:19:14   I admit I'm not crazy about the idea. I really would like to stay private, and not have people sharing clues in an attempt to determine my identity. But if you want to keep the page, I won't object. I realize that you mean it just in fun. —CovertProfessor

2010-05-12 15:26:33   Thanks, Dagon. I appreciate your understanding. Sorry to be a wet blanket. —CovertProfessor

2010-05-12 15:32:59   Dinner speculation is totally understandable, and there is less of a "paper trail". Hey, I wonder who I am myself some days. —CovertProfessor

2010-05-12 15:33:55   Hey, no worries, as the Aussies say. You're such a good egg around here that I couldn't possibly be angry at you. —CovertProfessor

2010-05-13 10:53:19   Ok, I added a "picture" of myself. It's still not quite perfect, but more my style than the Dobbs one, I think. —CovertProfessor

2010-05-13 15:57:53   Thanks! It looks just like me! —CovertProfessor

2010-05-18 10:27:19   Huh — yeah, I've never been to Jade Garden. There were enough negative reviews that I was put off from trying it — especially ones that said the food was greasy. I'm not a fan of oily food. But maybe I should give them a shot! —CovertProfessor
