Those settlers made to area's economy and lifestyle into a chief rifle-making hub, with a substantial number of the inhabitants making their rifles to sell. Some estimates are that 75 residents partaking in the industry, which was a significant portion of its population at the time. It became so prominent at the time that the signature rifle made in the area, a handcrafted muzzle-loaded rifle, was known far and wide as the Jamestown Rifle.

Those taking a leisurely walk or a vigorous jog would pass by old cabins that once belonged to the original inhabitants and rifle makers. Now lovingly restored and cared for by Guilford County. All of which give a glimpse into the lives of the settlers.
