Girl Scouts in Miami is huge. There are over 20,000 girls and 3,600 volunteers in Miami-Dade County, who are all involved in the Girl Scout ways and their community. If I go to a friends party, or my neighbors house, or even my Moms work office, I will be sure to find a Girl Scout or a volunteer for Girl Scouts there. What helps the Girl Scout spirit thrive is that there are three tropical forest areas that Girl Scouts go to, to camp. These are: Camp Little House, Camp Choee, and Camp Mahachee.  The Girl Scout Council of Tropical Florida, Inc. is an organization dedicated only to  girls. Where, in an accepting and caring environment, girls build courage, confidence, and character.

There are six stages of being a Girl Scout. The different stages go by the grade the Girl is in.  Daisies( K-1), Brownies (grades 2-3), Juniors (grades 4-5), Cadettes (grades 6–8),Seniors (grades 9–10), Ambassadors (grades 11–12).  Together,  with committed adult volunteers, girls develop qualities that will be with them all their lives, such as, leadership, strong values, social conscience, and conviction about their own potential and self-worth. Girl Scouts not only have fun, but learn important skills that will be with them their whole lives.

I have just bridged to Cadette! My Troop has just earned our Bronze Award, along with several other badges - it was great fun. There are three awards in Girl Scouts that you do in the different stages that you are in. When you are a Junior, you do the Bronze award with your Troop,  when you are a Cadette you do the Silver Award either alone or with a team of 2 or 3 others, and then when you are a Senior you do the Gold Award on your own. The point of these awards is to change the world, and show girls that they can change the world if they put their mind to it. For my Bronze Award, my troop planted a garden in Palmetto Bay Park. We changed the park because it used to have old plants which were not native to this area, now it has new, prettier plants that are native to this area. We had fun and made a difference to our community.

Being a Girl Scout is something to definitely be proud of.  You should join! (If you're a girl.)
