Donner Lake is a lake located just west of Truckee. It is a 45-minute drive from Reno, a one-hour drive east from Nevada City, a 1.75-hour drive from Sacramento or Yuba City, or a 2.75-hour drive from Chico. Its elevation is 5,935 feet.

History

Donner Lake is named after the Donner Party, many members of which starved to death while camped at the lake in the winter of 1846-47.
