East Bay Genealogical Society [EBGS] was founded in 1978. As of June, 2012, they gave their physical location, while maintaining some files at the Mayflower Society Library, 405 - 14th St. (at Franklin). While they no longer maintain a physical location, they do still hold monthly meetings with speakers that are open to the public.

Their monthly speaker series are held at the Family Search Library of the Church of Jesus Christ, Latter Day Saints [LDS - Mormon Temple], though according to their website, they "...are not affiliated with LDS but they are very generous to us and to all Family Search Library and Family History Center visitors, whether LDS members or not."


Upcoming Programs/Meeting 2013 are on the 2nd Wednesday of the month at 10am, Family History Center 4766 Lincoln Ave., Oakland, California

August - Ralph Severson, Director of the Family History Library talk about what's new in their library, and how to navigate their new website.

September - Lucien Sonder from the Rosie-the-riveter historical site will talk about the history of the shipyard.

October - Jean Norris who writes for the Oakland Tribune will speak about "surprises on your family tree."

November - Patrick Loftt will speak on "searching beyond the census"
