BIO

George Garthorne had a tragic life. In 1895, his 15 year old son died of epilepsy, which he had apparently suffered from since childhood. He had been treated by a Chinese herb doctor to no avail.3 The son died in the American Biscuit Company at 228 Front Street (San Francisco), which was also the site of Garthorne's suicide two years later.Garthorne was the manager of the company which was had been around for 30 years and was well known in the wholesale business. He had apparently been suffering from some "malady" for quite awhile. He had recently discovered that his other son was also suffering from epilepsy.6
