The Hume-Willcutt House, sometimes misspelled as Hume-Wilcutt and also known as the Joseph Willcutt House, is a Queen Anne home that was built in 1890-91 by local builder Robert Smilie. It was originally built for Lizzie Hume, "a spinster who appears never to have lived in it." 2 Shortly after it was completed it was sold to Joseph L. Willcutt, an executive with the Southern Pacific Railroad.
The home lost "an elaborately patterned brick chimney" in the Loma Prieta earthquake in 1989, but is otherwise largely intact. 1
On February 15, 1983 the Hume-Willcutt House was designated Oakland Landmark #LM 82-417.
In 2019, the house went on the market for $1,175,000. 3
