The Oakland Examiner was the Oakland edition of William Randolph Hearst's San Francisco Examiner. It ran from ? until 1925. 1 Beginning in 1891 it was housed in Examiner Building on Broadway.
For a time. the newspaper was written and typeset in San Francisco, and the type matrices sent across the bay for printing. 2
There was a lawsuit over calling it the Oakland Examiner and whether this was an attempt to deceive readers into thinking it was an independent Oakland newspaper and whether Hearst was allowed to use Associated Press stories in a paper outside his city. Hearst's lawyers pointed out it was labeled the Oakland Edition of the San Francisco Examiner. It was noted by others that the type for "Edition of the San Francisco" was in much smaller type, and on January 4, 1907 had been printed without that text. 2
