Ultimate:

A very popular sport that is played by passing a flying disc to a player in the opposite endzone, similar to football endzones. Players may not run while holding the disc, generally they are allowed 3 steps until they need to pass it. The game is also known as Ultimate Frisbee but is now officially Ultimate as "frisbee" is a trademarked name for a line of discs. The link to the wikipedia article on Ultimate is here.

You'll be able to find unofficial pickup games that you could join happening all over the place. A couple good places to look for pickup games are at the old DT field on 900 E, at Kiwanis Park, and at the intramural fields when it's not in season. Saturday mornings around 9 or 10 is a good time to look.

Pick-up Ultimate: The majority of pick-up Ultimate is organized using the Provo Ultimate Facebook page - all skill levels are invited and encouraged to come play!

Disc Golf:

This is a game where people throw a flying disc into a basket or at a target, trying to get the target with the fewest number of throws. The link to the wikipedia article on it is here. You can wander around making up your own course using lampposts, trees, etc. as targets or you can actually go to a real course where they have special basket things with chains on it so the disc is less likely to bounce out. You can use a normal disc that you might play ultimate with or there are special discs for disc golf that are better suited for this particular use.

Bi-Centennial Park - 1440 South State Street - This is a really nice 16-hole disc golf course, par is 48. You can get directions and print the course map here. Rock Canyon - 2620 Iroquois Dr - Rock Canyon Park has a 9-hole course, par is 27. Some people do it forwards and backwards to get a full 18-hole course. You can get directions here. Utah State Hospital - There is also a disc golf course here (installed in Spring of 2009), though because it is private property there may be some weird regulations or you might need to make reservations or something (I doubt it but you never know).. the Castle Park which is where it is closes at dusk. Riverwood Park - 4620 N 300 W - This is a "object course" with 9 well-marked tees and poles, apparently better suited for normal frisbee-throwers as opposed to golf discs. You can get directions and print the course rules here.

There is also a 13-hole disc golf course around the ponds on the south end of UVU campus in Orem. Apparently it is very short and thus well-suited for beginners, here is the address given by Team Utah Disc Golf - 800 West University Pkwy. More info here. That link also gives information on disc golf courses in American Fork, Lehi, and Spanish Fork.

Team Utah Disc Golf is a community of disc golfers that offers competitive disc golf for various skill levels, introduces people to the sport and educates them on how to play. They also help maintain existing courses and facilitate the development of new ones. The link to their website is here.
