The August Coppola Theatre is a theatre used by the cinema department at San Francisco State University to screen movies for students. This theatre is often used by cinema classes to show films to students and often used to facilitate discussion of said films. The August Coppola Theatre can comfortably sit 150 individuals. August Floyd Coppola was an author, film executive, academic, and an advocate for the arts, specifically cinema. The theatre was named in his honor due to his role as Dean of Creative Arts at San Francisco State University where he was known to advocate for diversity in his creative arts department as well as facilitate meaningful discussion about the role of arts in our society.
