Wilhelmine Henriette Suermondt de Fremery 1

Wilhelmine Henriette Suermondt de Fremery (March 17, 1860 - October 13, 1927) was a philanthropist and society matron, and wife of James Leon de Fremery.

Wilhelmine and James were the parents of five children, James De Fremery (1888 - 1965), Leon Florent De Fremery (1889 - 1984), Adolph Edward De Fremery (1892 - 1957), Virginie Elinor De Fremery Gorrill (1893 - 1975), and Paul William De Fremery (1898 - 1933).

At the time of her death she owned one of the largest art collections in the United States which had been inherited by her husband, James, from his family The paintings were donated to the de Young Museum in San Francisco, but during the Great Depression the Walgreen family (drugstore chain) had many of the paintings auctioned off in New York.

Wilhelmine died in Interlaken, Switzerland while on a 'world tour' following complications from salivary gland inflammation surgery. She is buried next to her husband James in the de Fremery family plot in Mountain View Cemetery.
